Wrapt in New Zealand – Taniko Needlework

Taniko is a decorative technique used on the borders of kakaru or korowai – traditional Maori woven cloaks.  The designs you see here are inspired by taniko bands and the borders on traditional Cook Island mats.  They also echo the feathers found on prestigious kahu huruhuru feathered cloaks.

These Taniko needlework art pieces, designed by Wrapt in New Zealand, are completed in traditional red and black and feature a feather like yarn that stands out from the stitching giving the piece a 3D effect.  They are a fantastic souvenir or memento of New Zealand and the unique cultures of the South Pacific.

Taniko needlework are are available as needlework kits and as completed designs, mounted in mats and ready for framing.  They are a perfect size and weight for overseas postage and for slipping into your luggage for the trip home.  Remember the uniqueness of New Zealand with a piece of taniko needlework.
